Ever been late for a wedding?
I mean really late. Like 400 years late! I bought my first pair of Blundstone Boots in 2008 to attend the wedding of Thorstein Olafsson and Sigrid Bjørnsdatter in Hvalsey, Greenland. Missed the wedding, and lost track of Thorstein and Sigrid. In fact we lost track of everyone living in Greenland. That wedding was the last we heard of the old Viking colony in Greenland. Too bad. I would have impressed them – a rube from Vinland showing up in a class pair of boots like these. And I even took a picture so I could show them. Maybe they could add it to the wedding album. Who knew you guys would be looking for pictures of your boots in action? Here’s my right foot looking out over the ruins of the church and Hvalsey Fjord on a cool August afternoon.
We heard the couple moved back to her in-laws in Iceland. So this year my Blundstone Boots took me over a lava flow to visit a Viking house at Husholmi, near Reykjavik, where we feasted on an Icelandic treat: rotted shark. It`s a little like eating a chewy version of Tidy Bowl. Thankfully we had a good dose of Brennevin to wash it down. But I hear the in-laws were actually up in northern Iceland, so I’m still trying to connect. Anyone in Tasmania hooked up with Thor and Siggy on their Facebook?
