In 2024, Blundstone marked an impressive milestone—30 years in Canada. Since 1994, Blundstone has transformed from a work boot into a beloved staple across the country. Today, Canada proudly stands as Blundstone’s largest market outside Australia, with nearly 70 unique styles available for Canadian consumers.
A Perfect Fit for Canada
Blundstone’s success in Canada can be attributed to its compatibility with the country’s diverse climate and outdoor lifestyle. Tim Stacey, President of Tin Shack Ltd., the full service Canadian distributor of Blundstone boots in Canada explains: “Blundstone fits the needs of Canadians perfectly.” Known for their durability and versatile style, Blundstone boots are equally suited for urban streets and rugged trails.
The Journey to Canada
Blundstone’s Canadian story began in the early 1990s when Australian Boot Company co-founder Greg Cromwell discovered the boots in Tasmania. After seeing an Australian band wearing Blundstone boots during a Toronto performance, Cromwell and his business partner Ian Heaps imported the first 24 pairs. The boots immediately caught the attention of Toronto’s creative community.
In 1994, Cromwell and Heaps opened the first store in Canada with Blundstone boots for sale, Australian Boot Company on Queen Street West in Toronto. With its eclectic vibe and artsy clientele, Queen Street proved to be the ideal launchpad for Blundstone’s Canadian debut. By 1996, they had secured official distribution rights, expanding the brand’s reach through grassroots efforts like Heaps’ cross-country road trips to introduce Blundstone to independent retailers.
Blundstone: A Style Staple for All Seasons
While Blundstone initially gained traction as a workwear brand, its appeal has grown to encompass a broad range of styles. From classic Chelsea boots to CSA-certified work boots, Blundstone offers something for everyone.
Blundstone’s Canadian offerings also include vegan options, developed in response to feedback from local customers. With a reputation for durability and long-lasting value, Blundstone has become a go-to brand for Canadians who appreciate quality and versatility.
Commitment to Customer Experience
Blundstone’s success is rooted in its dedication to customer service. Canadian customers enjoy perks like complimentary cleaning and conditioning services at Australian Boot Company stores to extend the life of their boots. This commitment to sustainability and service strengthens the brand’s connection with its loyal customer base.

Looking Ahead
Blundstone has ambitious plans for the future in Canada. The brand is focusing on expanding its presence in Quebec, partnering with a local marketing agency to boost awareness in the region. Blundstone’s 30th-anniversary celebrations included a national campaign featuring a collaboration with Beachman bikes. Fans participated in a contest for a chance to to win 1 of 8 custom Beachman x Blundstone E-bikes.
The brand is also evolving its product line to meet Canada’s changing weather patterns, with plans to introduce more clogs, shoes, and even sandals. “We’re evolving our range to include more options for all seasons,” Stacey adds.
A Testament to Quality and Longevity
Blundstone’s 30-year journey in Canada is a testament to its durability, quality, and customer loyalty. With a focus on customer experience and sustainability, ensuring Blundstone remains a cherished part of Canadian life for years to come.
